How to configure your workstation for Autodesk Revit 2022
The CAD program Revit has been specially developed for Building Information Modelling (BIM) and enables architects, building technicians and civil engineers to access a common database for each project. You want to work on larger and very complex projects with appealing geometry more easily and quickly? We configure the optimal business workstation for your individual Revit applications and offer you the possibility to put the system to the test with a test license for Revit via remote access. Contact us and arrange a free remote test. At the bottom of this page you will find our videos about navigation in real time. Following our expertise for Revit 2022:
The right CPU for Autodesk Revit 2022
For Business CAD Workstation there is a wide range of processors, Intel Core i7, Intel Core i9 series up to the Enterprise Single Xeon and Dual Xeon CPUs. AMD has thrown more processors into the ring with the introduction of its very competitive Ryzen and Ryzen Threadripper series. Autodesk Revit is traditionally a single-threaded application. What does that mean in terms of CPU? Ideally, a high-frequency processor would be the best choice. With each version update, the Autodesk Revit program is taking more and more advantage of multiple CPU cores and threads. Operations such as building information modeling (BIM) or loading elements into memory can be performed by Autodesk Revit using multiple cores. Multi-core functionality is limited to 16 cores. We recommend paying attention to a balance between CPU cores and MHz clock speed for their modeling tasks. Intel Xeon W-series processors, Intel Core i7, Intel Core i9 and AMD Ryzen are ideal for these purposes. For 3D modeling, we recommend an Intel Xeon W-2155 with 10 cores and up to 4.50GHz, an Intel i7-7800X with 8 cores and up to 4.00GHz, an Intel i9 10900X with 10 cores and up to 4.5 GHz in Turbo Boost. Depending on the focus of their workflows, an AMD Ryzen Threadripper with up to 64 cores may be the better choice for large renderings.
Optimized memory for Autodesk Revit 2022
Revit uses about 20 times the RAM size of the project file when loading a model. Formula: (file size) x 20 = size of RAM required to load the file.
Example: The file size is 800 MB x 20 = 16.000 MB - your workstation needs 16 GB RAM to load a file with 800 MB. We recommend to use 4-8 GB RAM per CPU core. For example, if you opt for a single six-core processor, 32 GB of RAM is sufficient for basic tasks or 64 GB for more demanding tasks.
The right graphiccard for Autodesk Revit 2022
The more complex your 3D models, the more graphics power Revit requires. We recommend using graphics cards certified for Autodesk Revit. NVIDIA and AMD developers work closely with Autodesk to thoroughly test and optimize their Quadro and Radeon Pro series graphics cards for Autodesk Revit. For basic 3D modeling, we recommend an NVIDIA Quadro P2200 with 5 GHz GDDR5 VRAM, an NVIDIA Quadro RTX4000 with 8GB, or an AMD Radeon Pro W6800 with 8GB VRAM. More performance is offered by the NVIDIA Quadro RTX A2000 with either 6GB or 12GB GDDR6 VRAM. As a high-end variant, the NVIDIA Quadro RTX A4000 with 16GB GDDR6 VRAM or an NVIDIA Quadro RTX A5000 with 8,192 Cuda cores is available. Graphics cards with GDDR6 memory are twice as fast as their predecessor models with GDDR5 VRAM. AMD offers a good alternative with the Radeon Pro W6800 with 32GB VRAM. Another indicator would be the use of graphics cards with more than 5,000 benchmark points. You can find a corresponding overview here. Make sure that you update the graphics card driver at regular intervals. Graphics cards with GDD6 graphics memory are twice as fast as their predecessor models with GDDR5 VRAM. For VR visualizations, NVIDIA's Geforce RTX series delivers very good results, but do not have official support from Autodesk.
The optimal hard disk configuration for Autodesk Revit 2022
The selection of the hard disk affects the performance of Revit. The loading times of models and the saving of local models are decisive. You can increase the performance of these processes by using an M.2 NVMe SSD with fast access times. If point clouds are used in a project, a second NVMe Solid State Drive (M.2 SSD) offers significant performance improvements in the display.
