How to configure your workstation forAutodesk Maya 2024

Autodesk Maya is a CAD program for animation, modeling, simulation and 3D rendering. The Maya software offers many creative tools to support artists in realizing their ideas and meets the extremely high demands of today's productions in the fields of film, advertising and graphic design. Following is our hardware recommendation:

Optimized High-Performance Processor for AutoDesk Maya 2024

Like most Autocad programs, Maya uses only one processor core for 3D modeling and simulation. For optimal results, we recommend a high-frequency Intel Xeon 8- or 10-Core processor, up to 4.50 GHz. Alternatively, you can use an Intel i7 9700 with 8 cores and a clock speed of up to 4.7GHz, an Intel i9 10900x with 10 cores and 3.7 GHz or an AMD Ryzen Pro 9955WX with a TurboBoost up to 4.5 GHz. In contrast to 3D modeling and animation tasks, rendering with Autocad Maya is an enormously multi-threaded process. The more CPU cores are installed in your Maya workstation, the faster the rendering tasks are processed. If you are planning to use rendering engines, business workstations with DUAL CPU are our first recommendation.

Optimizing the working memory for Autodesk Maya 2024

The size of the RAM depends on the complexity of their models. As a rule, 32 GB of RAM is quite sufficient for most rendering operations. If you render more complex models, we recommend an optimized rendering configuration from 64 to 128 GB. You can use the task manager to display the utilization of your RAM directly during a rendering. A business workstation provides you with 8-16 memory banks, depending on your needs, which can be equipped with up to 512 GB of RAM. As the size of the RAM increases, so does the risk of memory errors. When selecting RAM modules, make sure to use ECC RAM. RAM with Error Correction Code is able to detect memory errors and correct them automatically.

The right graphics card for Autodesk Maya 2024

Autodesk Maya requires a powerful graphics card. For post-production video editing, NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics cards have an advantage because they offer higher performance compared to NVIDIA Quadro cards. Autodesk Maya 2024 distinguishes between certified and tested graphics cards. Certified are NVIDIA graphics cards of the Quadro series, while the Geforce series only has the status *tested*.  A number of certified NVIDIA Quadro and Geforce RTX series graphics cards are available for Maya, as well as AMD Radeon series graphics cards. We recommend an NVIDIA Quadro RTX A2000 with 12 GB GDDR6 VRAM or an NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3060 with 12 GB VRAM as a base variant. As a performance model, an NVIDIA Quadro RTX A4000 with 16 GB VRAM or an NVIDIA Geforce 3070Ti and for high-end tasks, an NVIDIA Quadro A5000 with 24 GB VRAM and with 8,192 CUDA cores or an NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3080Ti. AMD graphics cards from the Radeon Pro series, a W6600 with 8 GB as an entry-level graphics card or an AMD Radeon Pro W6800 with 32 GB VRAM for performance and high-end are a real alternative. We will gladly provide you with the complete list upon request. Always make sure to provide the latest graphics card driver.

The optimal hard disk configuration for Autodesk Maya 2024

SSD hard drives start the operating system much faster and you need less time to load your CAD programs.  Rendering and ViewPort performance will not be significantly accelerated by using an SSD. The extremely fast access times of a solid state hard disk are important. We recommend using a primary M.2 SSD for the operating system and Autodesk Maya and a secondary M.2 SSD for your project data.
